Even while here in warm & rainy South Florida, I'm already thinking cool thoughts about our talented U.S. Olympic teams competing in Sochi, Russia in February, as these great WSJ vids shows how the Moguls, Bobsled and Biathlon teams practice without snow or ice up at Lake Placid. Plus, a classic iJustine video of our favorite vlogger in Norway climbing a glacier. Cool thoughts, indeed!: @USOlympic, #GoTeamUSA, @JeremyCota, @eamslider24, @tb_burke, @Lowellcbailey, @ijustine, @NBCOlympics

Meanwhile, over in Germany, they've got some major fashion issues to deal with for the next four months...

Not even a German figure skater who looked like Elisha Cuthbert could look good wearing this gear, even with a Gold Medal around her neck.

And as everyone has seen for themselves the past few months, the paranoid, delusional and dis-connected people that run the Russian government these days are totally playing to old stereotypes and outsider's worst fears about the New Russian by seeming to do everything in their power to create a negative vibe around the Winter Olympics months in advance for athletes, officials, spectators and TV viewers.
Teaser Alert: NOT too many Americans are going to Sochi in February.

The Olympic Flame going out twice this past week is just part of the wave of bad karma for the Russians in Sochi. Plus, we're getting all their hard workers:

Speaking of cool thoughts and cool doings far from the sub-tropical heat and humidity of South Florida, with three more weeks to go in the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season, here's a classic video set in Norway featuring iJustine, Justine Ezarik, cited and featured in so many blog posts here over the past six years, as well as lots of permanent 'anchors' on the blog for years, including this video.

iJustine YouTube Channel video: EPIC GLACIER HIKE! (In Norway). Uploaded October 27, 2011. http://youtu.be/pD0xXf9-_lI
Clips that didn't make final cut but worth seeing are at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5JAIrd8IFI and a good photo, too: http://followgram.me/i/276131095

Of all of her MANY videos, the ones she filmed in Norway in 2011 are my favorite, with this one being the best of them.
While I realize that these sort of opportunities don't present themselves every week or month, compared to the tech exhibits/forums she's so frequently at, I wish that Justine could make more vids like this one showing her willing to go outside of her own comfort zone, because to me, she never seems more honest & appealing than when she's in these sorts of situations. #Norge

And why-oh-why isn't she and one of her sisters participating on CBS' The Amazing Race?

I'm convinced she'd be great and become a real breakout media star if she went more than a 4-5 weeks without being eliminated.
Just saying...

Last week I first got wind of this interesting video and insight into German pop culture, courtesy of a Tweet by super-music talent DxDutch, one of the genuine stars of the YouTube generation, and an actual YouTube Partnerjust like vlogger extraordinaire and HBB favorite Justine Ezarik, i.e. iJustinehttp://ijustine.com/category/vlogs/

Over the weekend I was going thru my large YouTube inbox of subscribed videos I hadn't gotten around to watching yet because of the NCAA Mens Basketball tourney, the usual unethical doings in Hallandale Beach and environs, and some other matters not worth getting into now.
There, staring back at me from my computer screen was this remake by DxDutch of a Sonny Bono tune that he wrote and which became a hit for Cher in 1966, reaching #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 list.
And who, counter to some of her fan's fears, is NOT dead -NOWTHATCHERISNOTDEAD...

Above, at 3:37 of a video on multiple subjects made two days after her previous video, Justine talks about Google Glass and their just-ended contest to give away 8,000 pairs of these, but there's a catch: http://youtu.be/xHEFzTm6xD0There's no justice if Justine doesn't wind-up with a pair, because you know she'll use them, with viewers the winners.

I'd wanted to post the Google, iJustine and Joshua Toplosky videos last Saturday morning, a few hours after seeing them for the first time, but got distracted and wound-up doing some writing on the computer, cleaning around the house and listening to the "Nashville" soundtrack album.

In retrospect, I'm glad that I didn't post anything about it because within 48 hours, there was more news about Google Glass, courtesy of Google co-founder Sergey Brin's wife, Ann, who was spotted by a TMZ cameraman wearing a pair before heading into an Oscar party Sunday night.

Sergey Brin on the touchscreen: 'it's kind of emasculating'

My last post on Google Glass was September 11, 2012, that featured Sergey brin in a video -
titled, Google's Sergey Brin previewing new 'Google Glasses'; England U-21 goalkeeper Ben Amos wearing Google-cam while balls are kicked at him during practice. The mind reels at the possibilities of this!; Wait until iJustine gets a pair of these!; @iJustine

(Yeah, I know, I wrote Glasses instead of Glass.)

Google Glass - For someone like me, to see it, much less, in-person, is to suddenly find your head swimming in creative and practical ideas and finding yourself thinking and talking about why you want one, nay, need one.

Which is why at an Oscar party in LA that was doubtless full of affluent and famous people, Ann Brin had the one intangible that everyone else in the room wanted as soon as they saw it.

Now that's currency and how you shape influential opinion-makers -make them realize that you have something that they don't have and, for all their money and clout, can't get.

Boom goes the technolgy dynamite!

Just imagine what hard-working investigative reporters -or sleuthy bloggers!or corruption-fighting investigators could do with this technology, without a tell-tale cameraman trailing them to give away the surprise to suspected crooked/sleazy targets of scrutiny....

To say nothing of watching a sport or special event LIVE in-person, and being able to effortlessly record or send LIVE the whole scene around you, whenever you want.
Especially doing so at your child or grandchild's ballgame or swim meet or play or at a wedding or...yes, a government meeting about a controversial subject that is sent LIVE back to another location, whether a TV studio or newsroom or a whole self-selecting network of friends or interested people who want to see what's REALLY going on.

I still want a jet pack, but until then, this will do nicely!

Out of LA for a bit and back in snowy Western Pennsylvania with her family for the Christmas holidays, Social Media queen, YouTube sensation and tech and gaming guru iJustine (Justine Ezarik) and her sisters, Jenna and Breeanne, head to the Walmart to get their annual 'Sister Christmas' photos taken, show us how they came out, and then head to Red Lobster and crack wise on each other like sisters do.

In mid-December, Justine dressed as a panda for the Grand Opening of the Apple Store at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, and like her friends, was dumbstruck by the beauty of the store...

This awesome video of England U-21 and Hull City goalie Ben Amos wearing Google-cam glasses while soccer balls are flying towards him during practice causes the mind to reel at the myriad possibilities of this, both training and entertainment!

(Or, in the hand of blogger iJustine, priceless. I'd be willing to bet that there's already someone at Google HQ in Mountain View trying to figure out how they can speed-up the process so that Justine Ezarik can get a pair in her hands -and on her oh-so cute face- and start evangelizing the product in her usual original and amusing ways via videos that capture the eyeballs of lots of early adaptors.)

Hypothetically, in its simplest form, at a minimum, you could equip a striker wearing one pair of Google-cam glasses on a breakaway and a goalie wearing a pair moving out to block and you could see both points-of-views via a split-screen on TV, during a quick replay following a shot on goal, or via a sub-channel like what NASCAR does on DirecTV with driver-cam showing the view of individual drivers.

Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica - Just another one of the many things that iJustine and I both love, which she shares while vlogging during VEDA on the drive over towards the beach; #ijustine, @ijustine

Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica is just another one of the many things that iJustine and I both love.
Whenever I've gone somewhere in person to hear people like Bernard Zyscovich talk about making various parts of South Florida better, especially in Hollywood, this is what I always think of, but you have to get the mix right.
Unfortunately, The Village at Gulfstream Park retail complex here in Hallandale Beach still has NOT done this yet.

Back on April 13th, I remember writing some friends in LA about a fire near there, and a month later, they were in the news once again when a mountain lion swung by to check out the scene.

I originally meant to post the two videos -below- of lovely multi-tasker Justine about three months ago, back when she was visiting Norway and taking some awesome photos and videos of that beautiful country that's been the sad subject of so many posts of mine here since the massacre in Utøyaand home to so many friends, talented musicians -and, let's be honest, very beautiful women.

Plus, in case you missed it, Justine finally explained, to those who didn't know, what the reality of the Swedish Fish situation was. So there's that!

Curiously enough, that video of Justine and her Norwegian tech friends doing the glacier trek was one of the things that I had waiting for me in my YouTube inbox one night three months ago, when I'd  come home from spending a few hours with my Dad when he wasn't doing very well after he'd taken a fall earlier in the afternoon at the Hollywood ALF he's living at up the street. I'd had to jump into the gridlocked traffic on US-1 and rush up US-1 to get him and then head south to the Mt. Sinai ER in Aventura, with a large and disconcerting gash above his right eye.
Right where he had had surgery back in 1973 after he was the innocent victim in a car accident in North Miami Beach, while I was in Junior High School.

When I finally got home and flipped on my computer and the TV, with Jimmy Kimmel
about mid-way thru his monologue, I was both physically exhausted and emotionally distraught, and driving home I'd once again been mentally debating my idea of whether or not my visiting Sweden and Iceland soon for two weeks to just get away from here for a while and clear my head is such a great idea.
Something I've mentioned a time or two here before.

But as she has so many times before, especially the rough last year-and-a-half, with all of its upsetting ups-and-downs concerning my Dad's health, Justine made me laugh and smile when I really needed it... so there's that.
She's Pittsburgh thru-and-thru!

Something my Steubenville-born dad would surely appreciate if he only fully comprehended the whole Influencer scene.

Months after I'd originally planned on doing so, I'm going to be over on South Beach Monday afternoon to take some photos and shoot some video of the space on Lincoln Road that was supposed to be the new H&M store many months ago, but which is, well, STILL not open.

I'm going to try to get some straight answers from some responsible people as to when that soon-to-be cash cow store is going to be a reality, but if by chance I run into Justine, with her camera in tow, well, that sleuthing of mine may well have to wait until another time.

Even though I'm NOT a fan of reality shows anymore, per se, since the only one I consistently watch is CBS's The Amazing Race, Justine is definitely someone whose quirky personal adventures, misadventures and hijinks I would watch on the small tube.
Yes, smarts, savvy and personality still counts for a lot with me, and Justine has enough personality for any two women.
Take that as a hint, NATPE programming types looking for new ideas.

Though Love Actually is one of my favorite films of the past 15 years, and not just because the Prime Minister is named David -Hugh Grant- the original trailer,
with so many cliched songs running through it, nearly scared me off the first few times I saw it months before the film came out. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi362021145/

Fortunately, the great cast and the talented people behind the film -writer and director Richard Curtis, who'd written Four Weddings and a Funeral nine years earlier- had done work I loved, so despite the fact that it might well be one of the worst film trailers ever made for a very good movie
, I've seen it about a dozen times, though it's too bad that USA Cable has to edit out some of the best dialogue of the film.

Surprising observation: That by now, given the technology revolution and the sorts of ambitious and attractive women who are forever being attracted to South Florida, South Florida would have actually have an iJustine-like personality all its own, someone well-known for her efforts and promotions, i.e. making lots of amusing videos in locations throughout the region, yet there isn't one.
